Juri Ratas and Pierre Moscovici discussed the changes in taxation and customs regulations

Estonian Prime Minister, Juri Ratas, and the Representative of Commission on economy, finance, taxation and customs affairs, Pierre Moscovici, discussed the changes in taxation and customs regulations in the era of digital economy.
Mr. Ratas said that companies, using digital assets and tools, pay less tax than traditional businesses. It happens due to the specifics of the IT business that knows no borders and has gone ahead from the outdated legislation. Prime Minister of Estonia cited the example of conflicts between the state and the largest Internet companies Google and Facebook. However, he noted that it is only a vivid example of the inconsistencies of old views on the state and laws and a new reality.
According to Mr Ratas, it is necessary to develop a global solution looking ahead, but not basing on the present. Now the EU, for example, has common customs regulations and it meets the needs of the time. But each country develops the information systems for execution of the unified customs regulations on its own. ”The development of 28 different customs information systems is inefficient,” said Ratas.
